The Wuling Binguo EV (known internationally as the Bingo EV) is a stylish, affordable, and versatile subcompact hatchback that is forging a path for electric mobility worldwide. Launched in China in early 2023, this A0-class EV is now making its mark in both Left-Hand Drive (LHD) and Right-Hand Drive (RHD) markets across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.

1. Origins & Design: Affordable Cool

Developed by SAIC‑GM‑Wuling, the Binguo was designed to capitalize on the popularity of the Hongguang Mini EV, targeting urban drivers who want affordable, stylish, yet practical electric cars. The car is marked by its retro-modern charm—round haunches, oval LED lights, and a floating roof look in four colorways (white-black, green-black, pink-white, or all-black).

Inside, the cabin carries the round‑oval theme, featuring dual displays: one for the digital instrument cluster and another 10‑inch touchscreen infotainment system. Soft-touch panels, faux leather, and divisible rear seats underline Wuling’s aim to create a city-friendly and comfortable interior vibe.

2. Powertrain & Range: Three Battery Options

The Binguo offers varying powertrains and battery capacities for different market needs:

  • 30 kW motor (40 hp) — paired with a 17.3 kWh LFP battery, delivering ≈203 km CLTC (~126 mi) range.
  • 50 kW motor (67 hp, 150 Nm) — with either a 31.9 kWh battery (≈333 km range) or 37.9 kWh pack (≈410 km).

Top speeds are capped around 100–120 km/h, suitable for city use. Charging is fast too: 35 minutes from 30–80 % with DC, or roughly 5½ hours via AC for the medium battery.

3. LHD Launch: Affordable Urban EV in China

Originally launched in China in March 2023, the Binguo was positioned as an accessible city EV starting under 56,800 RMB ($7,800) for 203 km version and up to 84,800 RMB ($11,600) for the 410 km variant. The 2024 facelift included faster charging and upgraded infotainment. It sold over 150,000 units within nine months and surpassed 400,000 total by year-end.

4. RHD Expansion: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia

📍 Indonesia

Debuted Nov 2023 as the first overseas market, Indonesia offers two battery trims (31.9 kWh and 37.9 kWh). Since a July 2025 update, only the 333 km 31.9 kWh pack (Lite & Pro trims) remains available.

📍 Thailand

Launched July 2024 via EV Primus, priced at 419,000–449,000 THB ($11.5k–12.3k USD) with only the 333 km variant. A local assembly plant in Laem Chabang is planned.

📍 Malaysia

Rebranded as TQ Wuling Bingo EV, assembled in Segambut, prices expected below RM 100k.

5. Performance & Features

Though city-centric, the Binguo comes equipped:

  • McPherson front & multi-link rear suspension
  • Disc brakes, ESC, ABS, dual airbags, ISOFIX
  • Trip computer, cruise control, hill-hold, auto-hold, rotary gear dial, e‑parking brake
  • Dual 10.25‑inch screens, colored interior styles, 15 storage compartments

Cargo space may reach 790 L with seats folded in international models, and IP67-rated battery ensures durability.

6. Strengths & Fit: Who Should Buy It?

✅ Strengths

  • Affordable pricing (~$8 k in China, $11k–12k SEA)
  • Compact, yet spacious – ideal for dense cities
  • Long enough range – up to 410 km CLTC
  • Comprehensive safety/features for segment

⚠️ Considerations

  • Low highway speed (100–120 km/h cap)
  • Modest 40–68 hp output – good for urban trawls
  • Charging speed depends on available infrastructure

7. LHD vs. RHD: Global Adaptability

Wuling’s easy adaptation between LHD and RHD demonstrates its global ambition. Both formats share identical platform specs, comfort levels, and trim choices, showing design resilience and market flexibility.

8. Conclusion: Urban EV for All

The Wuling Binguo EV brings thoughtful design, range versatility, and robust features to the subcompact EV segment at prices that challenge incumbents like BYD Seagull. Whether in LHD cities like Shanghai or RHD hubs like Jakarta and Bangkok, the Bingo EV proves the appeal of affordable, stylish, and capable urban electric cars is truly global.

For anyone seeking a practical first EV or a stylish city commuter, the Binguo EV offers compelling value—and its growing presence across continents marks it as one of the most noteworthy electric hatchbacks of 2025.
